I have started to group re-purposed painted "affected" objects together with "painting shards" to see how they interact. This "all over" abstraction motif helps me to better understand the process of re-contextualizing the space.
Real Estate Collaboration
Ventana244 is an artist run gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This collaborative effort, co-curated by Peter Soriano and Phillipe Richard, discusses urban development, in particular in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where shiny new apartment buildings are rising faster seasonal crops, swallowing up the limited land still available for multiple uses other than real estate development. The concept of the show is to sublease the available space that has been designated to artist tenants, and Tamas Veszi, one of the tenants, has invited me to sublease part of his space. The project official opened on January 24th and will run through March 11, 2014. I am exploring the discarded fragments in the space that do not serve as typical prime presentation areas by "posterizing" in miniature the various nooks and crannies. Ideas regarding demarcation, boundaries, and control over the informal space within the space have become central to the conceptual basis for my contribution.
